Solar Panel Subsidy in Kerala: What Is PM Surya Ghar?

Verified official sources · Last checked 24 July 2026

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India's flagship rooftop solar scheme, launched in February 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme aims to install solar panels on 1 crore homes across India, providing free electricity and direct subsidy to eligible homeowners. With a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore, this is the largest residential solar initiative in Indian history — and Kerala homeowners are among the biggest beneficiaries.

For Kerala residents, this is the most financially significant solar scheme ever launched. The government processes CFA up to ₹78,000 after the required installation, DISCOM inspection/approval and portal steps. The approved amount is transferred to the beneficiary bank account or, where a scheme-linked loan is used, the beneficiary loan account. Project savings and payback remain site- and bill-specific.

How Much Subsidy Will You Get?

For an eligible individual household, CFA is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000. Approval remains subject to the official scheme process.

System Size Subsidy Amount
1 kW ₹30,000
2 kW ₹60,000
3 kW and above ₹78,000 (maximum)

CFA is released only after the official checks are completed. The approved amount is transferred to the beneficiary bank account or eligible loan account. FGE can assist with documentation, but cannot guarantee eligibility, approval or a payment date.

Who Qualifies for PM Surya Ghar?

These are important baseline requirements. Final eligibility and CFA release are determined through the National Portal and the relevant authority checks:

  • Indian citizen homeowner with a valid KSEB electricity connection
  • Have not previously availed solar subsidy under any government scheme
  • Installing through an MNRE-empanelled vendor — FGE Solar is empanelled
  • Using ALMM-listed domestically manufactured solar panels
  • Property must have adequate roof area and good sunlight access

9

Subsidy Credited to Your Account

After installation, DISCOM inspection/approval and the required portal checks, the approved CFA is processed to the beneficiary bank or eligible loan account. Timing varies; no installer can promise a credit date.

Documents Required

Gather these documents before starting the application. FGE Solar will tell you exactly what copies and formats are needed.

  • Aadhaar card (applicant)
  • Latest KSEB electricity bill
  • Property ownership document or rental agreement (with owner's consent)
  • Bank account details for subsidy direct transfer (account number & IFSC)
  • Passport-size photograph (applicant)
  • Mobile number linked to Aadhaar (for OTP verification)

Good to Know

All documents should be clear digital scans or photos. Blurry or cropped documents cause delays.

Your bank account for subsidy should be in the applicant's name and linked to Aadhaar for smooth direct transfer.

When you work with FGE Solar, we check your documents for completeness before submission — so there are no back-and-forth delays.

What FGE Solar Does For You
